Prosper Outlasts Austin Westlake 49-40 in Texas High School Football Shootout 2026_09_11

Two undefeated programs entered Children’s Health Stadium on Friday, September 11, but when the final seconds came off the clock, it was the Prosper Eagles who remained perfect.
Prosper defeated Austin Westlake 49-40 in an offensive shootout that featured more than 1,000 yards of combined offense, explosive plays and a fourth quarter that saw both teams continue trading punches until the final minutes. The victory moved Prosper to 3-0, while Westlake suffered its first loss and fell to 2-1.
Albert Leads Explosive Prosper Offense
At the center of Prosper’s performance was quarterback Tyler Albert, who delivered one of the biggest performances of the young season.
Albert completed 19 of 32 passes for 359 yards and six touchdowns while also leading the Eagles on the ground with 88 rushing yards on 16 carries and another touchdown. His seven total touchdowns helped Prosper overcome a Westlake team that repeatedly found answers throughout the night.
Prosper's receiving corps also delivered.
Marcus McCoy finished with eight receptions for 173 yards and three touchdowns, while Elliott Brown recorded seven catches for 118 yards and two scores.
Westlake Strikes First
After a scoreless opening quarter, Westlake broke through early in the second.
Quarterback Patton Jones connected with Nash Chapman for a 48-yard completion that helped set up a three-yard touchdown run from C.J. Jones, putting the Chaparrals ahead 7-0.
Prosper quickly responded when Albert found Brown for a touchdown to even the game.
Westlake regained the lead behind another C.J. Jones touchdown run, but Prosper answered again, this time with Albert finding McCoy for an eight-yard touchdown with 37 seconds remaining before halftime.
The Chaparrals still had enough time for one more statement.
Westlake kicker Anton Kopp drilled a 53-yard field goal on the final play of the half, sending the Chaparrals into the locker room with a 17-14 advantage.
Prosper Takes Control
Westlake stretched its lead to 23-14 in the third quarter when Jones connected with Nash Chapman, but the Eagles refused to let the game get away.
Albert responded with his legs, turning a fourth-and-two quarterback keeper into a 32-yard touchdown.
Then came one of Prosper's biggest plays of the night.
Albert launched a 53-yard touchdown pass to McCoy, giving Prosper a 28-23 advantage late in the third quarter.
The Eagles had gone from chasing Westlake to forcing the Chaparrals to chase them.
Fourth Quarter Turns Into a Shootout
The final quarter became a back-and-forth battle.
After a Westlake field goal cut Prosper's advantage to 28-26, Albert connected with Brown for another touchdown to push the lead to 35-26.
Westlake answered.
Jones found Rhett Jenkins for a touchdown, trimming Prosper's advantage to just two points at 35-33 with 5:26 remaining.
Less than a minute later, Prosper struck again.
Albert found Braden Schleifer-Bell, who broke a tackle and raced down the sideline for a touchdown, giving the Eagles a 42-33 lead.
Once again, Westlake responded.
Jones threw another touchdown pass to make it 42-40 with 3:03 remaining, putting the outcome back in doubt.
Prosper Delivers the Final Blow
Facing third-and-long with less than two minutes remaining, Prosper could have played conservatively and attempted to drain the clock.
Instead, the Eagles attacked.
Albert faked the handoff and found McCoy open over the middle. McCoy took care of the rest, racing into the end zone for Albert's sixth touchdown pass of the night.
The score extended Prosper's lead to 49-40 with 1:43 remaining.
Westlake had one final opportunity but couldn't complete the comeback. A long field-goal attempt came up short with 42 seconds remaining, allowing Prosper to secure the nine-point victory.
More Than 1,000 Yards of Offense
The final numbers reflected just how explosive the matchup was.
Westlake accumulated 511 yards of total offense, while Prosper finished with 505. Westlake quarterback Patton Jones threw for more than 400 yards and three touchdowns, with MaxPreps recording him at 422 passing yards and an 80.6% completion rate. Nash Chapman finished with 148 receiving yards and a touchdown.
But on a night when both offenses seemingly had an answer for everything, Prosper made the final plays.
The Eagles entered the game already averaging more than 50 points through their first two contests. After scoring 56 against Rockwall and 50 against North Forney, Prosper put another 49 on the scoreboard against Westlake to improve to 3-0.
Prosper Makes a Statement
For Prosper, the victory was more than simply another win on the schedule.
Austin Westlake arrived in Prosper undefeated at 2-0 after victories over Inglewood and Euless Trinity. The Chaparrals had also entered the week at No. 23 in High School On SI's Texas Top 25.
Prosper answered the challenge with its biggest offensive performance when it mattered most.
With Albert directing the offense and a group of playmakers capable of turning short completions into touchdowns or stretching the field vertically, the Eagles showed they can win when a game turns into a four-quarter shootout.
Prosper now turns its attention toward Allen, with the Eagles scheduled to open district play Thursday, September 17.
The first three games have delivered three victories.
And after taking down Westlake in a 49-40 thriller, Prosper heads into district play undefeated and carrying plenty of momentum.
